Science Vocabulary Hangman

Scientific Terminology RUBRIC

You will have a choice of how you wish to define your scientific terms. These words are very important to you and will be on tests and quizzes. Here are some fun ways to get the necessary work done. These will be scored on a RUBRIC. Pick the level that you wish to achieve. Do ALL terms and put your name on your work. Please be neat with your work.

Level 1 /Beginner Scientist: 75/C- (Handwritten Draft Only)

*Type them for an:80/C+ (Handwritten Draft + Typed Copy)

DEFINITIONS

Look up each word and write it down. High light it. Tell what the term means right next to that word. Do all terms.

Be sure to put your name on it.

Example: Dog: A domesticated canine.

Level 2 /Intermediate Scientist: 84/B- (Handwritten Draft as a FOLDABLE)

*Type them for a: 90/B (Handwritten Draft + Typed Copy as a FOLDABLE or STUDY GUIDE)

Idea: Cut them into FlashCards and glue them back to back on construction paper!!

Ecology All living organisms that live in an area and the nonliving features of their environment.

 

Community

 

All the populations of different species that live in an ecology

Look up each word. Write the word on one side. High light it. Tell what the term means on the backside of your paper or MAKE a FOLDABLE. This is a study guide.

Level 3 /Advanced Scientist: 90/B (Handwritten Draft and a word search)

*Type them for a: 93/A- (Handwritten Draft + Typed Copy and a Word Search)

WORD SEARCH

Hide all the words in a word search.

Have a partner High light them.

Look up each word. Tell what each term means on the backside of your paper or on another sheet of paper.

Level 4 /Rocket Scientist! (100/A)  (Handwritten Draft + a Crossword)

*Type them for a:105/A+ (Handwritten Draft + Typed Copy + a Crossword)

CROSSWORD

This is the most difficult level. Create a crossword puzzle.

Look up each word. Tell what each term means on the bottom or backside of your paper. Try to have a partner complete your puzzle.

EXTRA CREDIT Ideas!

Equivalent to an extra homework grade

Do a KEYWORD search. Using a MAGAZINE or NEWSPAPER no Internet this time. Write your terms on a piece of paper. Glue the words you find onto your paper.

Find 9-12 words for a 4

Find 6-8 words for a 3

Find 4-6 words for a 2

Find 1-3 words for a 1

Pick at least TWO words and draw a comic strip that shows the meaning of the words. *You MUST add color, creativity and imagination to your work. You MUST use white 8x10 paper so that these will fit in your Ring binder later.

Draw a picture of the TWO words. Stick figures and other stick drawings not accepted. You MUST add color, creativity and imagination to your work. You MUST use white 8x10 paper so that these will fit in your Ring binder later.

Make a deck of flash cards that will help you study them with a study buddy.

You may use your computer!

For Spelling and Penmanship, write each word in cursive 5X each with an INK pen on white notebook paper. Any INK color will do.

NO computer!

For Spelling, Grammar, Mechanics and Penmanship, write/type EACH word in its own sentence that CLEARLY shows the word’s meaning used correctly. HIGHLIGHT the word in that sentence.

Example: Dog: A DOG came into the backyard to bury its master’s slipper.

You may use your computer!

For Spelling, take an oral spelling test of your terms with Mz. Marcotte during RECESS.

And Remember, hand written DRAFTS count for extra credit!
