Science  Eienstein.gif (4819 bytes)  Notes

You will be provided with a series of notes for each unit/topic in science class this year. These will be provided in the form of "THINK- MARKS" which incorporate valuable literacy skills.

It is your responsibility to take notes in class as they are primarily the source of specific quiz and test questions. It would be in your best interest to take and study the notes given to you in class.

You will be using the  NOTESHARE software program to record your notes and you will be scored on a RUBRIC for your notes.

A good strategy of note taking in class will pay off in terms of effectiveness and time savings.

Record * Reduce * Recite  *Reflect * Review

1. Get a good loose leaf notebook or loose leaf paper. This will enable you to add, delete, and re-sequence pages and materials as a rough draft before using .

2. Develop an organizational system that works for you! Include headings, the date of the class, a system of "sections" to organize your notes. Leave plenty of white space for additions or pictures!

3. Make use of your program on your laptop! It WORKS!

 Note Taking Tips and Tricks!

This format provides the perfect opportunity for following through with the 5 R's of note-taking:

Record

During the lecture or reading, record as many meaningful facts and ideas as you can. Write legibly.

Reduce

As soon after as possible, summarize these facts and ideas concisely. Summarizing clarifies meanings and relationships, reinforces continuity, and strengthens memory.

Record your notes in!

Recite

Say over the facts and ideas of the lecture or reading as fully as you can, not mechanically, but in your own words. Then, verify what you have said.

Reflect

Draw out opinions from your notes and use them as a starting point for your own reflections on the lesson and how it relates to your other courses. Reflection will help prevent ideas from being forgotten.

Review

Spend 10 minutes every week in quick review of your notes, and you will retain most of what you have learned. This will assist you on tests and quizzes that you will take in the future over the material covered in class.
